Once upon a time, there was a young woman, Julia, who traveled a lot by airplane, sometimes as a passenger and sometimes as a flight assistant.
Every day there are hundreds of people who travel by airplane, men, women, old, young and even babies. As much as babies are cute and adorable they can be undesirable when it comes to being your companion on a plane flight – especially the long ones.
Although people on planes are different, all of them are looking for ways of comforting themselves and they get upset if anything changes their comfort level.
As a flight assistant, Julia knows these people and sometimes she is one of them. For example, when it comes to a baby on the plane, she usually finds the farthest seat from the baby since they tend to cry on flights. It seems their moms never care as much, perhaps because they are used to their baby’s cry and they just let it go.
One day Julia became a mom, a mom of a beautiful baby girl, Lily, with blue eyes and blond hair. The day came when it was Julia’s first time to be on a plane with her adorable baby. This time she had more luggage than usual, she tried to find the farthest seat away from people but even the farthest seat was close to someone and they had to share. She sat in the first row, Lily peacefully slept in her arms. The plane took off and as it climbed Lily was feeling more and more uncomfortable until suddenly, she started to cry with loud screaming noises. While Julia couldn’t calm her baby down she miserably felt the pressure of the uncomfortable passengers staring at her and her baby.
Then she had an idea, she wanted to help everyone on the flight, after all, it is her job as a flight assistant who had now felt the misery of the mom and annoyed situation of other passengers.
It is just a suggestion to the airline company but it will make a difference. She imagined a scenario like this:
[ Julia Talking ] Ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard we have very special JetBlue flight today with a few babies on board, this will be the very first flight that crying babies are a good thing! JetBlue will give all the passengers a 25% discount every time a baby cries which means if four babies cry you will get 100% off on your next flight.
For the first time on a flight people were less annoyed with crying babies. Moms didn’t feel more pressure than they had to and in the end since four babies cried, everybody was happy.
Next time don’t look for the farthest seat, sit back and smile at the baby for crying out loud. 🙂
